Once Upon a PE Lesson

PE Tales from China | Podcast with The PE Umbrella

I had the pleasure of joining host Ryan Ellis to share my journey as a PE teacher working abroad. Having spent my entire career teaching in various international settings, it was a unique opportunity to discuss how teaching PE in different countries—ranging from secondary to primary—has shaped my perspective and approach to education.

In this episode, we talked about my recent transition into teaching kindergarten PE, a role that came with its own set of challenges and learning experiences. I was excited to share some of my biggest successes in this new environment, along with insights into what I believe are my three strongest qualities as a teacher.

We also covered some of the podcast’s recurring topics, including classroom management tips, my favorite warm-up activities, and even a reflection on my most challenging lesson. It was an insightful conversation filled with personal anecdotes and practical takeaways for anyone passionate about PE.

Hope you enjoy my story!

As we approach the end of another academic year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on our teaching methods and consider new approaches to engage and inspire our young learners

Storytelling and movement words are great but how else can I ensure that movement within PE helps to develop a student’s language skills?

In this blog I want to give everyone a round of applause for plodding on during this uncertain and concerning time. EVERYONE, no matter where they live, whatever their job, is being tested, every day. As long as we are doing our best to look after each other, we all deserve a pat on the back!
